Postharvest treatment of inshell Chinese chestnuts by immersion in 52°C water or 52°C water containing 450 g/ml of the fungicide DCNA (2, 6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline; Botran®) for 45 min killed all larvae of Curculio sayi (Gyllenhal). These treatments also reduced populations of mycoflora in the kernel and shell by 60% without detriment to nut quality or germination.
