Two experimental intermittent sprayers, one air-operated and the other electrically-operated, were compared with a continuous sprayer for the control of the cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni (Hübner), and the imported cabbage worm, Pieris rapae (L.), in 2 successive field plantings of cabbages. The air-operated unit used 31% less insecticide than the continuous sprayer and was equally as effective in controlling both pests and in preventing feeding damage. The electrically operated unit used 42% less spray material than the continuous sprayer but did not control pests as effectively.
