Experiments for the control of the Pacific Coast wireworm, Limonius canus LeConte, in a sandy loam at Grand Forks, and Agriotes obscures (L.) in a silt loam at Agassiz, showed that potato tubers could be protected from damage by a single application of one of several insecticides. Fonofos G, at 5.6 kg AI/ha, broadcast evenly over the soil and rototilled to a depth of 10 cm was the most effective. Band treatments with the same material were slightly less effective. Two other compounds, terbufos and N 2596 (S-(p-chlorophenyl) O-ethylethane-phosphorodithioate) were nearly as good as fonofos. In the alkaline soils at Grand Forks, carbofuran gave only 50% control.
