Abstract:

Heat-sealed pouches of glassine paper that was laminated with adhesive + synergized pyrethrins to aluminum foil and either polyethylene or an ionomer were filled with cocoa mix or dry soup mix. The pouches were then exposed to large populations of Lasioderma serricorne (F.), Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), Sitophilus oryzae (L.), Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), Rhyzopertha dominica (F.), Plodia interpunctella (Hübner), Cryptolestes pusillus (Schönherr) , Trogoderma glabrum (Herbst), and T. variabile Ballion. During 12 months' exposure to these penetrating and invading insects, treated pouches provided good protection from infestation while some control and commercial pouches were penetrated in one month. No contamination of the mixes by the synergist, piperonyl butoxide was detected during the 12 months.
