The attractant Lursect TM was formulated with sugar-toxicant baits and used for area-wide control of Hippelates collusor (Townsend) in California. Spot treatment with the formulation using 1 lb/20 acres reduced populations to very low levels after 2–3 treatments of an isolated agricultural ranch.

Continuous treatment (twice weekly) in late 1970 of several golf courses and adjacent agricultural areas breeding H. collusor yielded rapid decline of populations in 4–6 wk. Seasonal treatment (April–October) of the same area 1 year later produced promising results.

Semiweekly treatments of agricultural areas infested with and breeding large numbers of H. collusor markedly lowered the density of females (the only sex attracted to hosts and Lursect).

As only older females are attracted, the proportion of teneral females increased in the population subjected to attractant-toxicant formulations. The proportion of inseminated and parous females decreased as the treatments continued. Female to male ratios, as expected, also declined.
