Abstract:The ferrous label capture-recapture system of Dr. N. Gary (University of California, Davis) was modified for Use with ground-nesting yellowjackets. A specially constructed box with landing platform placed over the nest Forced the workers to walk through an entrance with over- hanging magnets. Limited data showed most workers of Vespula pensylvanica(Saussure) foraged within 2000 feet, of the nest and indicated the usefulness of this method to study foraging behavior of yellowjackets.
