Nosema disease was transmitted by infected workers to queens in mating nuclei of A pis melliferaL. within as little as 4 days after first contact. However, the probability that queens would become infected appeared random and was not necessarily related to time in the mating nuclei or level of Nesema disease in worker bees. Feeding with fumagillin was effective in preventing infection in queens despite the presence of the disease in the worker population
