Abstract:

Some stored-product insects can bore through nearly all flexible packaging materials currently used to ship and store food and feeds that are susceptible to infestation. Packages are often exposed to many species of stored-product insects in marketing channels, therefore they must be protected from boring insects as well as from insects that enter through existing, sometimes minute, openings. Insect-tight construction prevents infestation by nonboring insects, but a chemical treatment is required to prevent other species from boring through package walls to gain entrance.
