The extreme resistance of the tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens (F.), to insecticides in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas requires careful definition or any factor that might enhance population development or that could be mauipulated to decrease populations. The data on overwintering presented here, collected over the past 3 years, were considered necessary to properly view the entire population dynamics of H. virescens and the bollworm H. zea (Boddie).
