Abstract:

In an analytical method for determining 2 juvenile hormone-active Compounds, 4-[6, 7-epoxy-3-ethyl-7-methyl-2-nonenyl)oxy]-1, 2-(methylenedioxy) benzene (ENT-70119) and 6,7-epoxy-l-(p-ethylphenoxy)-3, 7-dimethyl-2-octene (ENT-70221), in a rearing medium for Stomoxys calcitrans(L.), extraction with benzene-methanol (9:1) was followed by column chromatographic cleanup. Quantification of ENT-70221 was by gas chromatography, using flame ionization detection, whereas ENT-70119 was determined by spectrophotofluorometry. Recoveries of compounds added to the medium at 20-1000 ppm ranged from 86 to 99%. The approximate limit of detection was 6 ppm for ENT-702119 and 1 ppm for ENT-70221. On a dry basis, ENT-70119 sprayed as a 0.25% solution on the surface of the medium declined from 1470 ppm after 1 day to 172 ppm 21 days after applieation. Similarly, ENT-70221 sprayed as a 0.5% solution declined from 1620 ppm after 1 day to 288 ppm 22 days after application.
