Abstract:

Methods for inoculating the castern subterranean termite with the monogamous fungus Entomopthhora coronata(Costantin) Kevorkian were compared, Higher mortalities were obtained when termites were exposed to surface cultures than when inoculated by the overhead method. Exposure time to produce 50% mortality in the population 0.73 hours for the surface-inoculating method and 0.98 hours for the overhead method. The mean number of potential infective units per termite was calculated for the different exposure times. Percent mortalities were also obtained for these exposure times. The calculated LD50 for termites inoculated with E. coranata as 344 infective units.
