A native population of Musca domestica L. maintaining itself summer and winter inside an enclosed, screened hog- farrowing-weaning barn was exposed to 3% metepa in a sugar-syrup bait. No insecticides were used during the period of chemosterilant testing. Sterility of the population rose from 0% to greater than 80% within 4 weeks In 7 weeks, the adult fly population was so small that it was difficult to capture enough flies to adequately sample the population. Complete eradication of the existing population occulted when cold temperatures terminated sporadic ingress of flies from the outside.
