Abstract:In structure-activity studies the sterilizing activity of 3-5-bis(dimethylamino)-1,24-dithiazolium chloride in made Musca domestica L. has been extended to homologues with diethylamino, pyrrolidinyl, piperidino, and morpholino groups in the 3 and/or 5 positions. Of the 12 active compounds, 9 had similar SD30 about 5 moles X 10-9/♂ which was somewhat higher than that of tepa but lower than those of hempa and hemel. 1,1,5,5-Tetramethyl-2-4 dithiobiuret, a representative of a new class of male sterilants, was compared in feeding and injection tests with its cyclizatioin product, 3-5- bis(dimethylamino) 1,2,4-dithiazolium chloride. Both compounds had similar sterilizing and toxic properties.
