In 1965, large populations of adult Drosophila spp. in caged tomato field plots were reduced 88% in 6 days by 1 distribution of a bait unit containing lindane, sugar, yeast, glycerol, vinegar, and water at the rate of 77 units/acre. In 1966, similar populations in tomato field plots were reduced a maximum of 85% by distribution once a week for 6 weeks of similar units at a rate of 109 units/acre. In 1968, distribution once a week for 7 weeks of the units at rates of 100 or 200 units/acre seemed less effective than 7 applications of diazinon granules at the rate of 1 lb actual ingredient per acre; however, differences between treatments were not statistically significant at the 5% level of probability.
