Abstract:Insecticides were evaluated as foliar or soil treatments in 1968-69 for control of C-biotype Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) on sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench. Foliar treatments of disulfoton, monocrotophos, parathion, dimethoate, malathion, demeton, carbophenothion, endrin, endosulfan, phorate, CL-47031 (cyclic ethylene (diethoxy-phosphinyl) dithioimidocarbonate), and carbofuran provided effective initial control, but residual toxicity varied. In general. most treated plots yielded more seed 'per acre than untreated plots; however, increases were statistically significant in only 1 test. Excellent control of greenblugs was obtained when granular and liquid formulations of disuifoton, phorate, and carbofuran were applied in the furrow at planting time. Granular formulations provided better season-long control than did liquid formulations and did not affect plant emergence adversely. Seed yields were significantly increased with most soil treatments.
