Abstract:When mixtures of chemicals having ingredients that differ widely in volatility are dispensed as lures from the standard dental roll wick and reservoir used in traps for popillia japonica Newman, the composition changes during the evaporation process. Since mixtures of chemicals in different ratios arc not equally attractive, a wick was devised to maintain the composition of the lure mixture fairly constant and at a level giving maximum attraction despite gross differences in the volatilities of the ingredients. The wick incorporated a restriction that prevented back diffusion of lure from the exposed section and thereby prevented changes in lure composition.
