Abstract:Rates of development and daily frequency distribution of larval weights of Trichoplusia ni (Hübner) reared on an artificial diet were investigated. Five distinct instars were exhibited by the larvae. Most individuals were distributed within a 2-day period for instars 1 through 4, and a 3-day period for instars 5. By the end of the 12th day larval development was completed
Plots of the log of the larval weights against probit cumulative frequencies ascribed a straight line for all but 10-day old-individuals. A curvilinear relationship was obtained for these individuals. Use of these curves in comparing populations and selecting experimental individuals is discussed.
