Abstract:

Instar preference and competition tests were conducted between Tetrastichus incertus (Ratzeburg) and Bathyplectes curculionis (Thomson) for their larval host, the alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal). T. incertus females ignored 1st-stage larvae and attacked 2nd to 4th-instars. B. curculionis females preferred 1st to 3rd-instars over 4th-instars. Parasitism by B. curculionis increased under competition, while T. incertus parasitism decreased.
