Abstract:

Resin forms impregnated with 3, 5, or 10% concentrations of dichlorvos controlled chicken body lice, Menacanthus stramineus (Nitzsch); Shaft lice, Menopon gallinae (L.), and wing lice, Lipeurus caponis (L.) , when impregnated leg bands were attached to infested hens or to the bottom of layer cages; with these devices, the 10% concentration gave control for 147 days. When similar forms containing 10% did11orvos were attached to the bottoms of alternate cages, only partial control was achieved on the hens in untreated cages. Also, leg bands impregnated with 5 and 10% concentrations of dichlorvos were more effective than those treated with 3% concentrations when half the laying hens in a floor-type operation were treated, but a single strand of resin impregnated with 20% dichlorvos and woven through the bottom of the layer cages controlled the lice.
