Abstract:

Of 340 chemicals tested as attractants against Amphi mallon majalis (Razoumowsky), the most effective compounds were esters of 1,4-benzodioxan-2-carboxylic acid. The attraction of 5 of these esters ranged from 1.5 to 2.9 times that of butyl sorbate, the lure that is presently being used. The best of the 5 was the propyl ester, for which the name amlure is proposed. Amlure is much longer lasting and more stable than butyl sorbate.
