Viable egg masses of Malacosoma pluvial (Dyar) were intercepted in shipments of nursery stock into New York State. To prevent the possibility of this species becoming established in the Northeast, oregano phosphate insecticides were tested in Oregon as ovicides. Dipping eggs masses in parathion (1: 800 solution of 46.7% EC) or disunion (1:250 solution of 48.0% EC) for periods of 1-15 minutes with or without the addition of spray oil, or drenching nursery stock by spraying generally resulted in complete mortality of the eggs. Infested and treated nursery stock shipped to New York and handled under regular commercial channels yielded negligible hatches of larvae which were always abnormal.
