Abstract:

The use of a simple trapping arrangement makes possible the selective recovery of expired C14O2, and of radio labeled, volatile organic compounds from house flies, Musca domestica L., injected with C14-Iabeled insecticide chemicals and synergists. From experiments using this approach, it is known that the following products are given off by living house flies receiving the indicated, respective chemical: acetone-C14 from o-isoprop-C14-oxyphenyl methylcarbamate (Baygon®); C14O2. and the unmodified chemical from methylene-.C14-dioxyphenyl-labeled samples of Dihydrosafrole, myristicin, and safrole. Thus. the assumption that C14O2 is the. only labeled material volatilizing from insects treated with simple C14-labeled organic compounds is not always valid.
