The higher reproductive potential of a DDT-susceptible strain (NAIDM) of house flies, Musca domestica L., over 2 DDT-resistant strains is positively correlated with quantitative measurements of ovaries of females. The NAIDM strain had a lower LD,, greater dry weight of ovaries, and higher value of ovarian nitrogen than resistant strains, Orlando. Roberds, and strain 5-39, the DDT- resistance of which was of recent origin. Amino acid determinations revealed that the most resistant strain, Orlando, had the smallest quantity, but differences between the other strains were not significant. Following treatment with DDT both the NAIDM susceptible strain and the resistant Orlando strain revealed reductions in all the ovarian measurements. A decrease in quantity of most amino acids occurred, but amino acids of the Orlando strain increased.
