Abstract:

Nineteen compounds at deposits of 10, 50, or 100 mg per square foot were evaluated for residual and vapor toxicity against the adult cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricorae (F).]

American Cyanamid 47300 (O,O-dimethyl O-4-nitro-m- tolyl phosphorothioate) and Dursban® (O,O-diethyl O-3 5,6-trichloro-2-pyridyl phosphorothioate) were effective both as a residual and as a vapor toxicant. Geigy 12968 (O,O-dimethyl phosphorodithioate S-ester with 2-ethoxy- 4- (mercaptornethyl) -Δ2-1,3,4-thiodiazolin-5-one) had the most persistent residual toxicity, remaining active after aging 24 months. Six of the experimental compounds remained toxic to the insect for 6 months, but in 12 months only Geigy 12968 and Shell SD 8211 (2-chloro-l- (2,5-di chlorophenyl) -vinyl dimethyl phosphate) continued to be effective toxicants. Compounds that remained effective as vapor toxicants after aging 28 days were American Cyan- amid 47300 and Dursban®
