Abstract:The sex attractant cis-7-decen-l-ol acetate was synthesized and tested in the sized and tested in the laboratory and in the field on moths of the male cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni (Hübner). Also, the parent alcohol of the compound (cis-7-decen-I-ol), and the acetates of 7-octen-l-ol, 7-octyn-I-ol, -cis-and trans-7-dodecen-I-ol, 7-dodecyn-l-ol, and l-dodecanol were tested. The synthetic sex pheromone was much more attractive than any other compound. The survey of the homologs and analogs showed that, to possess significant activity, the compound must be the acetate of a 12-carbon alcohol with cis unsaturation in the 7-position.
