A method to screen 3 experimental materials in the field is outlined. The procedure involves the use of 4 apple trees. The experimental design is basically a 4x4 Latin square; the sources of variation are treatments, trees, and compass directions. Treatments are applied to single large branches with 3-gallon hand sprayers. Data on experiments conducted with this method are presented. Dicofol, tetradifon, and tepp performed as expected.
