Strawberry plants side-dressed with phorate or disul-foton had more strawberry aphids, Chaetosiphon fragaefolii (Cockerell), than the check plants early in the sum- mer. Possibly the plants initially absorbed sublethal amounts of toxicant Which stimulated aphid reproduction or altered plant composition provided superior nutrition. Results from field and laboratory trials with soil drenches of sublethal amounts of these chemicals indicated that the low dosages caused aphid populations to be higher than on untreated plants.
