Abstract:Various alkyl analogs of parathion and malathion were tested as substitutes and as additives to their parent insecticides for the control of resistant house flies, Musca domestica L., and the mosquito Culex tarsalis Coquillet. Many of the analogs were of nearly equal toxicity to susceptible and resistant house fly strains; they were effective also when used in combination with parathion or malathion. The diisopropyl analogs were outstanding in both respects. With malathion-resistant C. tarsalis, alkyl analogs of malathion were not effective either as substitutes or in combination with malathion, but carbomethyl analogs of malathion and malaoxon, as reported previously, were of similar toxicity to susceptible and resistant strains.
