Abstract:
Dusting cattle with 4% and 25%malathion, 5% and 50% methoxychlor and 25% ronnel, and spraying with suspensions of 0.25% and 0.5% coumaphos were unsuccessful for control of the face fly, Musca autumnalis De- Geer. Seven- to 10-gram face brushings of 0.5% and 2.0% dichlorvos syrup bait, and 0.5% naled syrup bait applied to dairy cows after morning milking were effective during the day of application and sometimes I day subsequently. 8% and 16% butoxy polypropylene glycol plus pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide gave fair but erratic protection. 1% and 2% dimethoate face wipes also reduced face fly populations, but not consistently. Ineffective at rates tested were repellents 3-chloropropyl n-octyl sulfoxide (MGK Repellent 1207®), di-n-propyl isocinchomeronate (MGK Repellent 326®), dibutyl succinate (Tabatrex®); and the toxicants ronnel, barthrin, trichlorfon, and coumaphos.Document Type: Research article
