Abstract:

Dimethoate at 0.5 or 0.75 Ib/100 gal was about as effective against California red scale, Aonidiella auranti (Maskell), as 0.4 or 0.5 Ib of parathion in field sprays. Combinations of 0.25 Ib of parathion and 0.25 Ib of dimethoate per 100 gal were equal to or better than 0.4 or 0.5 Ib of parathion used alone. Dimethoate was more toxic to scales on the fruit than those on the wood and parathion more toxic to scales on the wood. The combination of materials was about equally effective on fruit and wood. Effectiveness of both materials was reduced by spraying with water 24 hr after the insecticides were applied in laboratory-lathhouse experiments.
