Abstract:

Stauffer R-1504 and a 1:1 mixture of Guthion plus ethyl Guthion compared favorably in control of the boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis Boheman, with Guthion plus DDT. Monsanto CP-40294 and Bayer 29493 plus DDT were less effective. Zectran and Bayer 37344 gave boll weevil control comparable to that obtained with Sevin. Zectran was as effective against the bollworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie), as Sevin or endrin plus DDT. Bayer 89007, mirex, and Bayer 44646 were less effective against the bollworm than toxaphene plus DDT. Zectran and Bayer 44646 gave good control of the cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni (Hübner). A polyhedral virus showed promise in control of this insect. Parathion, Bayer 29493, Staufler R-1504, Guthion plus ethyl Guthion, Guthion, and Shell SD-3562 were more effective 1 and 5 days after treatment against the desert spider mite, Tetranychus desertorum Banks, than tetradifon.
