It is now generally ,believed that arsenic poisons the cell through its reaction with the SH group of glutathione. Since this material is closely allied with the growing process, nitrogenous fertilizers were used to stimulate growth in the hope of overcoming arsenical spray burn on peach. On poor soils, on which the injury from lead arsenate was most severe, the least "burning" was encountered 'where nitrogen was used.
