Abstract:

The genera Aspistes Meigen and Arthria Kirby are redescribed and illustrated. Previously described North American and European species are redescribed and illustrated. Aspistes antidactylatis, Aspistes dakotensis, and Aspistes occidentalis, Arthria spathis and Arthria masoni are described as new from North America, as is Aspistes freyi from Europe. Keys are presented to the known species.
