Abstract:

It has long been recognized that the successful rearing of an organism may depend on factors contributing to the acceptability of the diet as well as those responsible for adequate nutrition. The importance of influences on feeding behavior is apparently very great in the case of most plantfeeding insects, as the host plant must serve not only as food, but also as the principal environment of the insect.
