IngentaConnect An expert appraisal of a computer mouse intended to help upper limb disorders

Abstract:

Musculoskeletal disorders are commonplace in many occupations. Computer users face particular risk of developing symptoms of upper limb disorders. In a major study of computer users, around one in five reported pain that they associated with using their mouse. Often, these problems tend to arise from poor mouse design, positioning and/or grip. As a part solution to reducing risk and managing conditions for sufferers, a variety of alternative mouse designs and alternative non-keyboard input devices have become available. To illustrate the efforts being made in design to address the problems, the Evoluent Vertical Mouse 2 is appraised at the end of this article.
