Abstract:
This article describes the use of AbilityMatch (2004) in the context of an employment retention case involving a disabled employee. AbilityMatch is a tool which can be used in the context of a specific job to assess job activities and an individual's ability to provide information to employer and employee about where the individual may be able to perform the job successfully and where they may require work solutions (Birkin, et al., 2004). Additionally, some authors have speculated that AbilityMatch may have particular use in fluctuating conditions (Birkin et al., 2004; Haines et al., 2003.). The aim of the employment assessment, including the use of AbilityMatch, was to assess the interaction of the job and the individual's abilities and health. The information gathered as a result of the assessment enabled the Work Psychologist to identify strategies and potential work solutions for employer and employee to consider as options for enabling a return to the workplace. Keywords: ABILITYMATCH; BLEPHAROSPASM DYSTONIA; DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT ADVISER; EMPLOYMENT ASSESSMENT; EMPLOYMENT RETENTION; WORK PSYCHOLOGIST; WORK SOLUTIONS
