Abstract:
The purpose of this article, originally part of an information pack to be used as an aid for employment advisers, is to provide a screening tool checklist; a working definition of dyslexia; identify support strategies in the workplace and provide an appreciation of potential workplace difficulties. It is important to remember that the severity of difficulties is part of a continuum from very slight to severe. People develop different strategies and have different intellectual abilities, which affect the way their difficulties manifest themselves. The emphasis, once the issues have been assessed, is on practical strategies to enable the individual to successfully get into and stay in employment.Keywords: DYSLEXIA; SPECIFIC LEARNING DISABILITIES; WORKPLACE SUPPORT
