Abstract:

Structured interviews (37) with clients within a supported employment setting, their line managers, HR managers, colleagues and placement officer (local government agency staff) explored perceptions of diversity, experiences at work and feelings about supported employment. Content analysis of these interviews raised a number of issues for example, some participants were concerned about issues of confidentiality in relation to disclosure of unseen disabilities and lack of training and management support, in relation to people with a disability, was highlighted by managers. The findings of the study may have implications for supported employment agencies and employers.
