Abstract:

As part of the ongoing development of the Manchester Occupational Guidance Goals and Interest Exercise (MOGGIE), this paper reports on a study among jobseekers and advisors to consider its potential benefits. MOGGIE was originally developed over twenty years ago as a paper and pencil exercise but has been revived recently as a web-based tool which should work much better with its automatic scoring and multiple options for users. Because, in this form, MOGGIE is still in its infancy; a sophisticated evaluation was not appropriate. Rather, the project was designed to inform on user opinion of five key factors of value; ease of use, determination of job needs, clarification of skills, impact on client-advisor dialogue and influence on motivation to secure employment. The results were encouraging for each of these, suggesting that further investment and development of MOGGIE would be worthwhile.
