Abstract:

Author Carolyn Thompson has spent the past six years learning about the unique struggles, experiences and needs of children in LGBTQ families. In this article she outlines common experiences of people with LGBTQ parents and guardians, and examines the effects of homophobia and transphobia on their lives. She also provides answers to several commonly-asked questions, discusses the diversity of LGBTQ families, suggests tips on how to be an ally to this community and offers a glossary of terms.
