Abstract:

Author Robert Bean has worked with hundreds of public and private sector organizations and conducted or contributed to Australia's diversity research and development projects. In this article, Bean reviews the results of a recent study commissioned by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship. The study results confirm that cross-cultural training (CCT) directly benefits public sector employees, their organizations and clients, and justifies the allocation of resources to this type of training. It also identifies policy, planning, training delivery and performance issues regarding the future development of cultural competence.
