One of the oldest journals of German studies, Zeitschrift für deutsches Altertum und deutsche Literatur was founded 1841 by Moritz Haupt. In 1876, the Anzeiger was incorporated, adding new areas of interest to the journal: besides German medieval language and literature also dialect studies and onomastics. The journal features original peer-reviewed articles in German and English. Today, ZFDA is edited by Jürgen Wolf.
