Sound Power Level Measurement of the Erhu (Chinese Violin)
Abstract:The Erhu ('Chinese violin'), a two-stringed bowed instrument, is one of the most popular Chinese traditional instruments. Its timbre can be compared with violin. In this study sound power measurements of the Erhu were performed in a reverberation chamber according to ISO standard and Chinese national standard. Two qualified musicians performed on two different Erhus. The sound output and dynamic range were investigated by means of real-time analysis. Typical values of the radiated sound power were obtained through averaging.
