Abstract:
This paper examines how to solve numerically the radiation of a vibrating structure with apertures / openings through walls of any thickness. The interior and exterior acoustic domains are modelled separately using a boundary element approach. They are linked by a continuity condition of the pressure and the velocity through the opening. The numerical computation provides the pressure on the internal and external walls of the structure, and the acoustic velocity at the opening. The radiated acoustic pressure at any given point, inside or outside the structure, is obtained by the Helmholtz integral formula. A numerical and experimental validation is presented. This results in favorable conclusions concerning the ability of the model to compute correctly the acoustic radiation of a thin or moderately thick structure. After the validation, several examples are processed using the model, some of which take into account an absorbing blanket within the structure.Document Type: Research article
