Efficient Numerical Solution for Nonuniform Sound Field in a Rectangular Room

A procedure for efficient computation of nonuniform sound fields in a rectangular room is presented in this paper. The inhomogeneous three-dimensional wave equation, which includes the presence of a time-harmonic point source in the room, is considered. A convenient transformation from the three-dimensional differential equation to the one-dimensional one is used. The resulting equation is solved applying the analogy with an electrical transmission line. The final solution is obtained in the form of double infinite sum. The proposed approach can be applied not only in the case of rigid walls, but also in thc case of two opposite walls having arbitrary admittances. Compared to the standard triple-sum normal-mode expression this solution provides far more efficient numerical calculations.
