Effect on Ultrasound Propagation In Metal Rods Due To Contact With Liquid

A number of rods of varying diameters and different metals have been subjected to the study of ultrasonic beam propagation, incident parallel to the axis of rod. The resulting ultrasound signal received after reflection, refraction and scattering has been experimentally observed in air and at different levels of water surrounding the rod. Significant effect is observed at lower frequencies and small diameter probes. The effect is more pronounced in stainless steel and brass as compared to mild steel rods.
