Sound Absorption Properties of a Perforated Plate and Membrane Construction

A prediction model describing the absorption coefficient of a plate and membrane system is derived. Measurements of absorption coefficients in an impedance tube and in a reverberation chamber are carried out for various constructions. Predicted and measured results are compared. The prediction model is found to give satisfactory results. It is found that the absorption is mainly determined by viscous losses induced in the space between plate and membrane. The performance of the absorbent is very sensitive to changes of distance between plate and membrane.


Es wird ein Vorhersagemodell für den Absorptionsgrad eines aus einer Platte und einer Membran bestehenden Systems abgeleitet. Die Absorptionsgrade wurden im Impedanzrohr und im Hallraum gemessen und mit den berechneten Werten verglichen. Die Ergebnisse des Vorhersage-modells erwiesen sich als zufriedenstellend. Es zeigte sich, daß die Absorption hauptsächlich durch Reibungsverluste in dem Raum zwischen der Platte und der Membran bestimmt werden. Die Wirksamkeit des Absorbers hängt sehr empfindlich von Änderungen des Abstands zwischen Platte und Membran ab.


On a établi un modèle permettant de calculer à l'avance le coefficient d'absorption d'un système composé d'une membrane et d'une plaque perforée. D'autre part on a effectué des mesures de coefficients d'absorption dans un tube d'impédance et dans une chambre réverbérante pour différentes réalisations d'un tel système. La comparaison des résultats mesurés avec les résultats calculés a montré la valeur prédictive du modèle proposé. On a constaté que l'absorption est déterminée principalement par les pertes dues à la viscosité dans l'espace d'air situé entre la membrane et la plaque perforée. Il en résulte que les performances acoustiques d'absorbeurs de ce type dépendent considérablement de la distance entre plaque et membrane.
