Nonspecular Transmission Effects for Ultrasonic Beams Incident on a Solid Plate in a Liquid

Abstract:

The nonspecular phenomena are investigated theoretically for an ultrasonic beam transmitted through a solid plate immersed in a liquid. The analytical method used by Bertoni and Tamir [3] to describe the nonspecular profile of a beam reflected from a liquid-solid interface is extended to the problem under consideration, taking into account all existing poles. To solve the integral representing the transmitted beam, the amplitude plane wave transmission coefficient is replaced by a simpler approximate form. The transmitted beam profile is then calculated from both singlepole and multiple-pole formulations.

Zusammenfassung

Es wurden die Streuphanomene beim Durchgang von Ultraschallstrahlen durch eine feste Platte, welche in eine Flüssigkeit eingetaucht war, theoretisch untersucht. Die analytische Methode, welche von Bertoni und Tamir [3] zur Beschreibung des Streuprofils eines an einer festflüssigen Grenzfläche reflektierten Strahls verwendet wurde, ist mit dem Ziel, alle existierenden Pole in die Rechnung einzubeziehen, für das Problem erweitert worden. Zur Lösung des Integrals, welches den transmittierten Strahl beschreibt, wurde der Transmissionskoeffizient für die Amplitude der ebenen Welle durch eine einfachere Näherung ersetzt. Das Profil des transmittierten Strahls wurde anschließend mit Monopol- und Multipolansatz berechnet.

On présente la théorie des phénomènes non spéculaires manifestés par un faisceau d'ultrasons traversant une plaque solide immergée dans un liquide. Pour cela on a procédé à une extension de la méthode analytique que Bertoni et Tamir ont utilisée pour décrire le profil non spéculaire d'une faisceau d'ultrasons réfléchi par un interface liquide-solide. Il convient pour cela de tenir compte de tous les pôles existant. Pour calculer l'intégrale représentant le faisceau transmis, on a remplacé le coefficient de transmission en amplitude d'une onde plane par une expression plus simple. Le profil du faisceau transmis a pu ainsi être calculé à partir des deux formulations, celle par pôle simple et celle par pôles multiples.
