Abstract:

The loudness of modulated tones (rectangular modulation) has been studied by loudness comparisons with continuous tones. The hearing thresholds seem lower for modulated tones than for continuous tones, a fact which is well known in Audiometry; but at higher levels, modulated tones seem not so loud as continuous tones.

La sonie des sons modulés (à modulations rectangulaires) a été étudiée par comparaisons iso-soniques avec des sons continus. Les seuils auditifs paraissent plus faibles en sons modulés qu'en sons continus, comme cela est bien connu en Audiométrie; mais aux niveaux supraliminaires, les sons modulés paraissent moins intenses que les sons continus.

Zusammenfassung

Die Lautstärke modulierter Töne (mit Rechteck-Modulation) wurde durch Einstel lung gleicher Lautheit mit unmodulierten Tönen untersucht. Die Hörschwelle modulierter Töne scheint niedriger zu liegen als die kontinuierlicher Töne, was in der Audiometrie wohlbekannt ist. Bei Pegeln oberhalb der Schwelle werden modulierte Töne dagegen lauter gehört als unmodulierte.
