Abstract:

The reflection of a transverse wave beam at a free boundary surface is treated using the angular spectrum representation. It is shown that not only the reflected transverse wave but also the reflected longitudinal wave, which is degenerated in our case to a surface wave, is shifted. This latter shift of the surface wave is only the half of the other one. Both shifts change their signs for angles of incidence greater than 45°. This behavior becomes more evident if the energy flux is considered. Finally a comparison is made between the beam shift investigated in this paper and the beam shift which appears in the case of total reflection.
